“Heavy” Reflections is a collaborative project for the Spring of 2024
This project is supported by Just Buffalo Literary Center as part of their Civil Writes Project in concert with their BABEL Series featuring author Kiese Laymon, his memoir Heavy: An American Memoir and his BABEL discussion on Thursday, April 25, 2024.
The goal of this project is to provide community members a continuing opportunity to reflect deeply on their personal experiences and on how they relate to Kiese Laymon’s memoir and BABEL discussion.
Our core group has been selected. Thank you to everyone who expressed interest. Fortunately, the below activities are open to whomever wants to join.
Activities:
- Thursday, April 4 5pm-6pm Welcome Gathering for core group (books distributed)
- Thursday, April 25 7pm-10pm Kiese Laymon’s BABEL talk (complimentary admission for core group)
- Thursday, May 2 6:00pm-8:30pm WRITE ON intuitive writing group inspired by “Heavy” at CAO’s Masten Resource Center at 1423 Fillmore Ave Sign Up
- Monday, May 6 at 7pm-8:30pm Once Trees Book Club discussion of “Heavy” at Masten Resource Center
- Thursday, May 9 1:00pm-3:30pm WRITE ON intuitive writing group inspired by “Heavy” at Masten Resource Center Sign Up
- Tuesday, May 21 6:00pm-8:30pm WRITE ON intuitive writing group inspired by “Heavy” at Rise of WNY at 1643 Hertel Ave Sign Up
- Friday, May 31 by 9:00pm Deadline to Submit your writing at Share Your Writing With Us
- Saturday, June 22 1:00-3:00pm Celebration/Presentation at Fitz Books & Waffles of publication of writings by core group
Heavy: An American Memoir is available from local bookstores such as Talking Leaves, Fitz Books and Zawadi Books.
This project will include WRITE ON workshops and Once Trees Book Club.
